Ancestral Wisdom and Engineer Daughters

Once upon a time,  long ago, my mother rented a shop unit in my grandfathers building in town. (Her store was called MJ DESIGNS back then, before it was Plantation House Samoa)

My grandfather, (my dads father) Papa, would sit in his office and observe all his domain, all the activities of his tenants in the building. One day he tells my mother he’s increasing her rent. ONLY her rent. Not any of the other tenants. She asks, why?? And Papa says – Because Ive been watching and I see that your shop gets many more customers than any of the other shops in the building. You have many more sales. Youre making more money. So you can afford to pay more rent.
😆🤑

I was reminded of my grandfather earlier this week. Daughter came home with super awesome news – shes been given a new role at SWA. Shes going to be the Asset Management Engineer, for the whole country. Samoa Water Authority has combined water assets of more than 200 million tala, that Daughter will be the lead engineer for. She has to do things like figure out the country’s water needs for the next so many years, what assets SWA will have to increase to meet those needs, where to drill new bore holes, and more. I’m so proud of her. And thankful for the people who have been mentoring her, guiding her learning at SWA, and now entrusting her with this new role.

The new role, comes with an increase in her salary too. So I told Daughter – Aha, I’m increasing how much you pay us for your board!

She says, Huh, why?

And I say, Because youre making more money. And your great-grandfather said that when you make more money, then you should pay more. How can you argue with this ancestral knowledge and wisdom, handed down through the generations??! 😜

The End.
